The \"Awa Shoai\" dyeing process, similar to century-old dyeing techniques, is a manual, hands-on process. Artisans kneel beside a large vat of indigo dye, leaning over it to immerse the fabric. The initial dip yields a very light shade of blue, necessitating multiple repetitions to achieve deeper colors. The denim is then woven at a low-tension to create a rugged three-dimensional texture that highlights the unique color.
