Featuring a Tokushima hand-dyed natural indigo warp  and a \"Kusaki-Akane\" natural plant dye weft, the Hinode-Awa denim features a spectrum of indigos and reds peaking through the fabric's surface. The crossing of these two natural dyes produces a unique color referred to as 二藍 \"Futaai\" or \"Dark\/Deep Indigo\" which was originally reserved exclusively for Japanese aristocracy. Studio D'Artisan opts for thicker gauge slub yarns for this fabric, producing an uneven slub texture similar to hand-woven fabrics.
